All social security and welfare fund pension beneficiaries who were sanctioned a pension before December 31, 2025, must complete the mustering process via an Akshaya Centre between July 17 and September 30, 2026.

Nature and Environment - Our Wealth

Thalanad Grama Panchayat, situated close to the Meghamala mountain ranges, is rich in diverse flora and fauna. The region experiences the unique climatic conditions of the Western Ghats and is home to several rare medicinal plants, birds, and butterflies. The Biodiversity Management Committee (BMC) is actively functioning at the Panchayat level to conserve and protect the local biodiversity.

🌿 Medicinal Plant Diversity

The hills and forests of this region are home to a wide variety of traditional medicinal plants. Plants such as Keezharnelli, Kurunthotti, Adalodakam, and Aloe Vera, which are highly valued in Ayurveda, are commonly found in rural areas.

🦜 Bird & Butterfly Diversity

The village provides a habitat for various species of birds found in the Western Ghats, along with more than a hundred species of rare butterflies. The region also has a rich diversity of dragonflies and beetles.

🌾 Agricultural Biodiversity

In addition to rubber, pepper, coffee, coconut, and clove, the region has extensive cultivation of traditional tuber crops such as Greater Yam, Colocasia, and Elephant Foot Yam. Local farmers continue to conserve many traditional agricultural crops that have been cultivated for generations.

💧 Water Bodies & Wetlands

Streams and rivulets flowing through the Panchayat help maintain the region's water resources. The native fish species and amphibians such as frogs and skinks found in these watercourses play an important role in maintaining the ecological balance of the area.
